Get DRENCHed! - An Interview With Nina Dinan, DPT
In honor of September as "back to school" month, we've been highlighting our different classes here at PT360. What better was to learn about our classes than through getting to know the instructors themselves? Today we're interviewing one of our fantastic aquatic class instructors, Nina Dinan, DPT!
Katie: Can you tell us a little about your background and specialties as a PT?
Nina: I graduated from UVM in 2012 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. I specialize in orthopedic and post-op rehab, sports injuries, general strength and conditioning, and dry needling. I have been teaching DRENCH! at PT360 for 5 years now.
K: What is DRENCH! like?
N: Drench is a high-intensity aquatic class but is easily modifiable to your needs. During the class, we focus on elevating your heart rate by performing cardio and strengthening exercises that will also increase your flexibility. You may also find that due to the anti-gravity effects of the water, you will be able to do things you may not normally be able to, like running and jumping. I keep the class fun and energetic by playing loud music, either by request (currently it’s 1960’s hits) or weekly themes!
K: What kind of exercises will we do in DRENCH! ?
N: The exercises in Drench vary depending on the class but you can expect using kickboards, noodles, or sometimes we just use water resistance. Other exercises are treading water, swimming, squatting, core/ab work, and upper body and back strengthening exercises.
K: What makes DRENCH! special?
N: The pool at PT360 is heated to 91-92 degrees, so it’s very comfortable to get into, especially during the chilly winter months when you can’t seem to get warm! In addition, the salt water actually provides more resistance than chlorine pools, which allows for a better work out. Lastly, the people that come to DRENCH! are a fun group and it’s a nice atmosphere to meet new people.
K: Can anyone join DRENCH! ?
N: Drench is offered to everyone, not only our patients! The only requirement is that you have your doctor’s approval and you have no general health limits, such as high blood pressure, cardiac conditions, or are post surgery.
K: Do I need to bring anything to class?
N: Please bring a towel, a bathing suit, a change of clothes, and a can-do attitude!
K: Where and when is DRENCH! offered and what is the cost?
N: Drench is offered all year round at our Williston clinic on Tuesdays from 5-6 pm. Please call the Williston clinic to book your first class at (802) 860-4360. The drop in rate is $15 or a six week session is $72.
